At the beginning of this year, ASN / SLO Hep C Project was able to re-join the AmeriCorps team!  Our AmeriCorps Member, Val Barboza, came to the agency with a mission - help ASN and SLO Hep C find new ways to fund-raise in this climate of belt-tightening budgets. 

Val not only comes with a mission, she comes with enthusiasm, passion and a long history of volunteering with non-profit organizations.  She has been a familiar face to us, participating in our Walk for Life, the LifeCycle and as a donor herself.  Val worked for many years at Cal Poly in Academic Records and Financial Aid as well as lecturing in English composition before retiring in 2005.  After dabbling in other fields outside of Cal Poly, Val decided to join AmeriCorps, giving her the chance to work with a non-profit from the inside.

Val's volunteer experience is vast.  She has provided event support for agencies and events throughout the county:  P-FLAG, the San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club, Woods Humane Society, Hospice Partners, Friends of the SLO Botanical Gardens - just to name a few!  She even performs weddings at the County Courthouse!

Val has some new and exciting ideas for us - utilizing programs that exist in our community (see the Featured Event!) all the way through a much larger project in the works to help raise awareness and dollars for our Hep C programs.  Along the way, Val will help us re-tool and revitalize our long-standing events, keeping all of you out there excited and interested in coming back and participating year after year!
